About Aaron
Aaron Calvert has been working as an early childhood teacher for the past 11 years. He has worked at Step One Nursery School in Berkeley, CA, for seven years and has played the guitar for 20 years. As part of his efforts to introduce children to music, Aaron sings and plays the guitar for them. As a gift to his children and parents, he recently collected 10 songs he played over a school year. This CD, "I'm Playing These," has now been produced by Turn The Page Press, Inc.
Aaron has also shared with his classes a series of children's stories taken from his childhood, The Aaron and Adam Stories, (unpublished).
Aaron plans to continue teaching at Step One, while also looking to create more CDs, to explore other venues for live performances, and to publish his children's stories.
Bev Bos of Turn the Page Press tells the story of Aaron's CD:
"As you know, we have visitors everyday at our preschool. One day, toward the end of last school year, a young man who teaches preschool in Berkeley CA visited our school along with a co-worker. As he was leaving he handed me a CD of music that he had recorded for the children he works with. At times like this my first impression is “what a nice thing to do for his kids” because, after all, it’s your voice that your children want to hear. Little did I know what an absolutely adorable piece of music had just been placed in my hand. I do have to confess that I didn’t get around to listening to it right away. I guess that’s because this has happened to me a lot over the years and maybe I’ve become a bit jaded. But, anyway, I really didn’t get my hopes up too high. Once I listened to it I just flipped. I immediately called Michael Leeman and demanded he listen to it --- now! His reaction was, “Wow, I wonder if he has ever thought about releasing this to the general public?” After a few phone calls, we met and talked, and got to know each other and --- well, now we have a new CD that we really hope people will fall in love with as much as we have. He has such a soothing singing voice and his style is gentle but straightforward -- it is easy to close your eyes and imagine you are sitting in the middle of a gathering with his preschool kids -- singing. His name? Aaron Calvert.
Michael worked with Aaron on the layout for the CD cover. The artwork on the front cover comes from a picture his aunt had drawn of him. And on the back is an illustration that Aaron drew himself as a youngster."
