Free fringe magician Aaron Calvert brings you his latest show Aaron Calvert: MIND GAMES.

Amidst recent tensions that have seen many junior doctors go on strike, one doctor had another idea altogether. Aaron Calvert, a mind reader & hypnotist, has hung up his stethoscope and decided to make a name for himself doing what he really loves, performing Aaron Calvert: Mind Games.

Hailing from Manchester, Aaron had always had an interest in magic, although obtaining excellent grades throughout school lead him to accept a place at Nottingham University to study medicine. Aaron, 25, explains, “It was a difficult 5 years spent training to be a doctor with lots of exams, practicals and study so it was hard to find time to perform.” 

Throughout university Aaron dreamt of the big stage and after a chance meeting with national award winning magician Sam Fitton began to construct the foundations of Aaron Calvert: Mind Games. His new show is set to debut at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival to critical acclaim.

“We first ran Aaron Calvert: Mind Games in November 2012 when I should have been revising for medical exams! All 3 nights were a huge success and so we did it again in 2014 in 3 different cities and got 5 star reviews. We couldn’t believe it!” said Calvert. 

Aaron promises Mind Games to be full of ‘How did he do that?’ moments and startling demonstrations of his hypnosis skills whilst taking the audience on a journey of psychological persuasion that we experience in everyday life. It’s certainly a far cry from the surgeries and waiting rooms that he’s left behind. 

Over the last year Calvert has seen his private bookings soar as he’s recently performed for pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca and technology giant Samsung who described Aaron as, ‘Simply amazing! The best mind reader we’ve ever seen.’

Considering himself to be one of the lucky ones, Calvert seems confident about his future as a performer as he explained, “Leaving medicine was a tough decision but I’m so excited to bring Aaron Calvert: Mind Games to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year. It’s a new challenge, new audience and I can’t wait to show people what I can do.”

Aaron Calvert: Mind Games plays Edinburgh Fringe Festival @ The Belle Angéle (venue 301), 1.30pm daily through August 6 to 28 (except August 17). One thing is certain and that’s even though he may no longer be a doctor, Aaron Calvert is sure to spend plenty of time in theatre.
